Chemistry is the study of matter and the changes it undergoes. One reason that chemistry is so important is that is the study of everything you can touch, taste, see, and smell. Why does water make bubbles when it boils? Why doesn't oil dissolve in water? How can I clean water enough to drink it? What are all those words on the ingredients list of your snack? These things and more can be understood through chemistry.
As you progress through the chemistry course, you will learn something new almost every day. Sometimes, the material seems a bit abstract, but most everything you learn has real-life application. Working hard to put new information together with your previous knowledge learned in all previous courses will give you a much greater understanding of your world than you have now, and make you a more informed consumer, scientist, and citizen. |
